Connecting AAO to HANA

$

Hi Folks,

Quick question - probably an easy one. I'm wanting to play around with AAO (usually I work in HANA) and am not clear on how to connect to HANA.

In one version of AAO in on system, after clicking "Insert Data Source", shows three folders: Connections, Favorites and HANA. This version of AAO just seems to be called "Analysis for Office". I can connect to a HANA system fine with this version.

However, in another system, I have a laptop with "Advanced Analysis for Office" pre-installed. When I similarly try to insert a new data source, all I see are SAP connections - no options to connect to HANA.

Any ideas? Also, what's the difference between "Analysis" and "Advanced Analysis" for Office?

Thanks,

Jody

Organizing fields in AAO

Hi Folks,

I'm wondering if there's any way to visually organize dimensions (well, fields in general) in AAO in a meaningfully way? In WebI, for example, folders can be created for organizing Store-related dimensions, Product-related dimensions, etc.

I've been poking around the web and the documentation but haven't found anything useful so far.

Thanks!

Jody

Restrict list of displayed hana models

Hi,

We are planning to use AAO for adhoc reporting. I would like to restrict the list of hana models displayed based on the package permission of the logged in user. Currently when a user logs in, the following query is triggered to HANA which gives the list of all existing cubes when the "Folder" tab is selected:

SELECT "CUBE_NAME", "DESCRIPTION", "CATALOG_NAME"  from "_SYS_BI"."BIMC_CUBES" ORDER BY "CATALOG_NAME" ASC .

Is there a way to restrict this folder list?

Thanks

BEx Analyzer vs. Analysis for MS Office

$

0

Summary

  • BEx Analyzer widely used as the MS Office integration tool to analyse multidimensional data from SAP BW.
  • SAP have clearly positioned Analysis, edition for Office (AfO) as the "premium alternative" and eventual replacement to BEx Analyzer.

Purpose

  • Understand if there are any gaps in functionality.
  • Understand what benefits could be gained by adopting now.

Image01.jpg

Note: At point of comparison, the following versions of the tools were evaluated.

  • Analysis, edition for Office 1.4 SP6 (14.6.2960)
  • BEx Analyzer 7.30 SP3 Revision 1906

Findings

Intuitive UI (larger buttons, contextual information, visual cues).

Current feature set is comprehensive and provides good coverage for typical BEx Analyzer users.

There are some features from BEx that are still lacking from Analysis. Those identified are planned for future releases (e.g. variable personalisation, variable history).

In addition to the improved UI, there are many features that are only available in Analysis that could enable faster and smarter ways of working.

Comparison: Select a Data Source

Recently used queries are immediately visible.

Ability to leverage OLAP connections defined in SAP BO (e.g. HANA)

Interoperability across BI platform via Analysis Views.

Support for multiple data sources.

Image02.jpg

Comparison: Prompts

Toggle display of all optional prompts at once via [Display] button.

Toggle display of specific optional prompts via pins.

Variable Personalization.

Variable History.

Image03.jpg

Comparison: BEx Text Elements (Information)

Not constrained where/how information displayed.

Drag and drop dynamic text elements directly into worksheet.

Info Field can be used for quick access to common elements.

Image04.jpg

Comparison: Filters

Improved UI enables users to identify filters at a glance.

Image05.jpg

Comparison: Navigational State

Improved UI facilitates faster workflows (no need to right click and access "query properties").

Quick access to attributes by expanding [+] sign.

Analysis pane visible by default and can be toggled via a single click.

Intuitive Columns, Rows & Background consistent with Analysis, edition for OLAP.

Image06.jpg

Comparison: Undo/Redo

Multi-step undo/redo.

No longer need to undo one navigation step at a time, able to jump to a particular state.

Image07.jpg

Other Benefits

Toggle automatic refresh.

Image08.jpg

Schedule (broadcast) via BI platform.

Image09.jpg

PowerPoint publishing.

Image10.jpg

Conditional Formatting.

Image11.jpg

Save workbooks to BI platform.

Image12.jpg

Unified "Design Mode" - no need to switch between consumption and design.

Support for multiple data source (e.g. multiple BEx queries in a single worksheet, combination of BW & HANA, etc)

Interoperability with Design Studio (e.g. prototype a web application).

Conclusion

  • Existing users who are familiar with BEx Analyzer will find the transition to Analysis relatively smooth. With a familiar MS Office UI, comprehensive feature set and overall improved design, unlocking value out of your enterprise DWH should be made even easier.

  • Analysis specific features such as interoperability with Analysis Views, interactions with the BI platform and access to more data sources will further support our ability to leverage existing investments (BW, HANA, BO) and promote cross collaboration across the wider BI community.

  • The intuitive design will attract new users who may have required BEx in the past but were intimidated by the non friendly UI, ultimately driving broader adoption.

  • Analysis is inline with SAP’s strategic focus and will be the target for future innovations. The tool appears to be sufficiently mature (1.4 SP6) to start being used today as the replacement for BEx Analyzer.

Syntax for entering values "contains pattern"

Hi,

Reading the SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office User's Guide on page 82/83 I can see that user can filter values user "contains pattern" with an extra-information "*You can not use these syntax rules for filtering."

aa.png

We can filter datas with pattern into SAP BW, so users want to have same functionnality with AfOffice (and they don't understand why we can do this before and not in the nex BI tool whereas it's included in User Guide).

Does it exist a workaround or any information about a release of this capability ?

Thanks for your support,

Differences between Analysis View & Workbook functionality.

$

I tried searching through SAP documentation for my inquiry but haven't found anything concrete. What are the main differences between Analysis View and Workbook within Advanced Analysis for Excel?

I know an Analysis View is made from a BEx and a Workbook is a saved instance from an Analysis View. I am just trying to understand the key differences so I can make the appropiate security changes within our model.

Are there significant functionality Pros and Cons outside the fact that Analysis View comes first before the Workbook in terms of creation.

Is there an advantage in an end-user being able to save an Analysis View in their My Favorites or only allowing he/she to save Workbooks in their My Favorites?

Thanks!

Crosstab overlaps Excel Cell Content

Dear Experts,

I used Analysis for Excel and allow users to add lines in the report. (After that they will upload that Excel File to BW)

My problem is that I come across the error message Crosstab overlaps Excel Cell Content. The reason is data in crosstab overlap users input data.

Is there any way to let the system replace the user input lines and ignore this warning msg?

Expand to level for a structure in VBA

$

We use collapsed structures in our query for performance reasons, so we do not show all key figures when the workbook opens. Now we would like to have a functionality written in VBA which should open the structure up to a specified level like it is done when I use "Expand to level" -> "1" in the context menu. (This is of course only a part of the functionality)

I already tried to use SAPSetFilter without any success. Is there any VBA command available that I could use?

Best regards,

Andre

Highlight Changed Cells - Too many cells (no named range)?

$

Hello,

I implemented the Highlight Changed Cells Function as described in the How-To-Paper from Gerd Schoeffl (How To...Highlight Changed Cells in SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office).

In my workbook I have two tabs with different crosstabs. I noticed that the highlighting function only works for one of them and that there is a warning for the other one: "There is no named range for Crosstab1". In the coding I saw that the error message is put out by the Highlighting Changed Cells subs but I am not sure why the problem occurs (I could not find out at which point of the runtime the error occurs, even when I tried debugging it).

When I restrict the selection to less cells it works for the same crosstab. Therefore I would assume that there are simply too many cells for the function to work, is that possible? And if so, has anybody found a solution? In the crosstab there are 376 rows and 21 columns...

This is the code that contains the error message:

Sub createMapInitial(CrossTabName As String)

    Dim map As Object
    Dim cross As Range
    Dim Cell As Variant
    Set map = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
    On Error GoTo RangeNotFound
    Set cross = Range("SAP" + CrossTabName)
    Dim RowSel As Object
    Dim ColSel As Object
    Dim rowkey As Variant
    Dim colkey As Variant
    Dim keyMap As String

' delete the last selection tables
If Not RowSel Is Nothing Then
        Set RowSel = Nothing
    End If

If Not ColSel Is Nothing Then
        Set ColSel = Nothing
    End If

    Set RowSel = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
    Set ColSel = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
    Call FillSelTabs(CrossTabName, RowSel, ColSel)

    For Each Cell In cross
        If isDataCell(Cell) = True Then
            rowkey = RowSel.Item(Cell.row)
            colkey = ColSel.Item(Cell.column)
            keyMap = rowkey + colkey
            Call map.Add(keyMap, Cell.value)
        End If
    Next

    Call MapCollection.Add(CrossTabName, map)
    On Error GoTo 0
    Exit Sub

RangeNotFound:
    Dim text As String
text = "There is no named range for " + CrossTabName
    Call Application.Run("SAPAddMessage", text)
    On Error GoTo 0

End Sub

Hello All,

I have created one workbook in Analysis office for MS Excel and saved in BO platform. In that workbook I used Trendline with Option of displaying Equation of Chart and Display R-squared value.

When I download this workbook from BI Launch Pad and refresh, all the above settings changes .

How can i restrict the workbook from automatic changes?

Kind Regards

Is there a way to configure Analysis for Office so that I don't have to click the Skip button

And go directly to the list of SAPGUI servers?

I'm trying to understand why one would have multiple crosstabs for one datasource.  When I change one crosstab, it changes the other crosstab.  I was could have a different layout for multiple crosstabs.

Hello Expert,

I am asked by end-users to change the default layout of all Analysis for Excel report :

  • by default, all cells of key figures (100 € for example) are left-aligned.
  • users would like to have cells right-aligned.

Could you please tell me which Style has to be modified and to apply it to every report.

Thanks in advance for your help.

crosstab disconnected from data source

$

Hi There,

Just recently, few users have reported issues where the crosstab is disconnected from its data source. Therefore, when data source is refreshed then it doesn't refresh the sheet with crosstab. In the following example, crosstab1 on "Production BI" sheet is connected to data source but rest of the sheet has lost it's crosstab connection to data source. However, I can still see all the data sources in the prompt window.

29-04-2014 9-02-44 PM.jpg29-04-2014 9-02-24 PM.jpg

We are using following

> Analysis for Excel - Version 1.4 SP6

> Excel 2013

Is there anyway that we can re-assign data source to crosstab without creating a new sheet with new crosstab and data source? Any help will be highly regarded.

Regards

Angad
