Planning in AO: Add new line with compounded characteristics

$

Hi everyone,

I am trying to migrate an integrated planning application from web template 7.x based to Excel based using the Analysis for Office solution.

I have an input-ready query in which the characteristics filter has fixed constant values for Sales Org and Dist.Channel already.

When I append a new line of planning data with a compounded characteristics (e.g. MAT_SALES material sales) , it foreces me to enter the completed compounded key (i.e. <sales org>/<dist.channel>/<material no.>) in AO; whereas in web template, I am able to key in the material no. only.

Considering the user-friendliness, is there anyway to configure the AO Excel/Input-ready query such that I don't need to enter the full key of compounded characteristics in the way like web template?

PS: my BW platform is 7.31 and AO version is 1.4 SP8.

Thanks,

KC

Multiple sheets on one datasource

Hi there Analysis experts.

How can we use the same datasource in different sheets in SAP Business Objects, edition Analysis for Office.

Apparantly it is possible in Analysis for Olap, and of course in WEBI.

But we seem unable to find that information in Analysis for Office.

Our customer has a workbook with 8 different worksheets using the same datasource/query.

She is meeting performance issues with this report.

If she runs the bex query only once in a new report, she has no issues on performance.

Connect to Bex query after logging into Web service

Hello experts,

After logging into the web service, I see connections for all HANA and BW infoProviders.

If I click HANA OLAP connection, I see the "next" button. If I click connections to BW InfoProviders, the "Next" button is grayed out, I only have "OK" to click which takes me to the infoProvider.

I know if I choose "Local System", I can log into BW and find BEx queries.

Is this by design? Can't we get list of Bex queries under the connection we highlight somehow?

Thanks.

Avoid showing technical names when asking for Query Variables

Hi experts,

I have some analysis that take data from a query.

When refreshing data the selector for variuables appear, and shows the technical name and the text for every variable.

I just want to show the text.

Is this possible? And how? I cannot find the way.

Thanks a lot!

Impossible to use SAPGETDATA function from an intermediary level of a hierarchy with a cell reference.

Hi Gurus,

It is impossible to use SAPGETDATA function from an intermediary level
of a hierarchy with a cell reference.

When I open completely a hierarchy node I manage to get the bottom level
using a cell reference.

But I cannot do the same thing from a level above.

I attach screenshots.

BO Analysis for Excel – How to connect to SAP BW

Hi Gurus,

We recently upgrade to BO 4.1 (from 3.1).  And want to start to use Analysis for Excel.

We are little unclear how to connect from Analysis for Excel to SAP BW 7,3.

From Analysis select “Select Data Source” Then get a pop-up “Logon to SAP BussinessObjects BI Platform” with User, Password and Web Service URL.  All those are blank.  For the Web Service URL there is a message “Error while checking availability of SAP BussinessObjects BI Platform system”

ScreenHunter_1001 Sep. 16 10.56.jpg

If choose “Skip” then get SAP Logonpad and can log on to BW.  From there I can choose the BW queries directly.

What is the best practice to connect from Analysis for Excel to SAP BW?

Is it not possible to connect to the BO server?  And choose OLAP connection from there to connect to BW?

If so, is something missing in our setup?

Reynir

Analysis for Office Offline Planning - Integrated Planning

I am using Interated Planning with Analysis for Office 1.4 v8 and I would like the ability to be able to retrieve real-time data from my data source, save the data offline in Excel and make planning changes in the key figures open for input without being connected to BW and at a later time re-establish my connection and upload the changes I made offline. Below are the steps I am performing.

1. Establish Connection in Analysis for Office to Enterprise BW.

2. Pull up query with the latest real-time information from it's data source.

3. Save the data in Excel on a local drive, for use at a later time when system access is not available (e.g. on an airplane).

4. While away from the office the user will access the query results saved locally on laptop and enter Planning Data in the key figures open for input and re-save the file locally.

5. When the user is back in the office they are able to upload/save the values they maintained offline in the input key figures into the data target/real-time cube.

Currently I am able to perform steps 1-4 with no issues. In step 5 when I open the file the only way I can reconnect to the to Enterprise BW is to click the 'Refresh All' button in the Analysis ribbon. When I do this all the data in the spreadsheet is refreshed with data from the data source and the values I entered while offline are overwritten. What is the best solution to accomplish this requirement?

If I use the LogOn API in step 5 instead of the 'Refresh All' button will it refresh the data as well once the connection is established or will I be able to connect to BW and save the entries I made offline?

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

I am new to SCN. :-)

I am using the Analysis for Microsoft Excel 1.4 SP08. Every time I close Excel when AO is activated, Excel locks up and has to restart:

I am using MS Excel Professional Plus 2010 (32 bit) on a Windows 7 (64 bit) OS. This problem also occurs when using previous service packs.

I hope someone has an answer for this! It is very frustrating for myself and our users.

Thank you!

Hierarchy Long Text -> Missing functionality?

$

Dear all,

during evaluation of all features within AO we found one issue, regarding the display of long texts in a hierarchy and I wonder whether you experienced the same issue or whether you have a workaround for me:

Scenario:

- we are using a reporting hierarchy, based on an info object

- for all levels of the hierarchy in BW, you are able to maintain a short, medium and long text

- the info object itself only stores a short text as description

In BEx 3.5 I was able to apply different display setting independently on the hierarchy nodes and on the info object, so I was able to report the hierarchy node as long text and the info object as short text.

In AO (and even in BEx7??) it seems that the display behavior of the hierarchy is completely based on the underlying info object. If the info object only stores short text, the hierarchy can as well only be displayed as short text.

Can anyone confirm this display behavior?

Thanks,

Andreas

How to change all theses levels in one clic ?

Thank you for your answer.

Analysis: How to open a query in display mode and switching to input ready via macro?

$

Hi everybody,

for our customer we created a simple planning sheet with Analysis in MS Office 2010.

Everythink works fine but we do not want the workbook to open the query in change mode.

The user should be able to switch to change mode using a button on the sheet.

Unfortunately we need to set on the Design Panel the mark to open the query in the input ready mode.

So first user blocks all others. Settings special filters or authoriziation is not an option here.

Opening the workbook only in display mode and trying to switch to change mode using

Application.Run("SAPExecuteCommand", "PlanDataToChangeMode")

does not work.

I get a result 14, "Command PlanDataToChangeMode is not enabled".

How can I enable the command, without using the Design Panel?

Best regards

Daniel

Merging Variables/Prompt in Analysis for Office PowerPoint

$

Hi,

does anyone know if it is possible to merge variables/prompts in Analysis for Office PowerPoint? In Excel you have the option under the components tab of the Design Panel but what about PowerPoint? I have several Queries in a PowerPoint presentation and they all use a variable for FiscPer so i got an unnecessary long prompt screen. Any option in Analysis to make it easier for the User without the need of coding a Macro?

Thanks and regards,

André
