Hi,

I have created couple of analysis for office report and these reports work fine when I run it through desktop client.

However when I saved these report to portal and trying to run through  the launch pad. It downloads a file with extension SAPAOX and the file loads in excel and it loads the analyser as well but no data gets loaded and all sheets are blank.

I get below message in the background.

I am on Analysis 1..4 SP9 and windows 7, 32 bit. MS office 2007.

Thanks.

Is there a way to calculate the difference in the overall result column or a new column when using 1 measure (ie Gross Sales) that is shown with 2 separate members also in columns (ie. FY 2014 and 2013)?  I am aware of the "Calculate totals as" option, but do not see a difference or variance that correspondes to what I am looking to do.  Example below.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Analysis for office: Red cross appears in filter box

Dear experts,

When I open 'Analysis in Excel' for some Query a red cross appears in the box 'filter'.

When this is the case, it's impossible to add any restrictions to the box 'filter'.

You can find a screenshot as attachment.

Is there anyone who can explain to me what this en how I can avoid it?

Thanks in advance!

Reset Data Source necessary?

$

Sometimes you might experience that some Query changes does not have any effect in Analysis for Office. You have to reset the Data Source to see your changes. Unfortunately changes you made in Analysis for Office are lost afterwards (i.e. changed filter settings). This guide should give you an overview when you have to reset the Data Source.

If a simple refresh does not work the reset happens on a new opened instance of Analysis for Office. If the Query is already inserted into Analysis for Office before you change the definition, even a reset will not fetch any new definition from the backend.

Secrets About Message Handling

$

0

Regarding message handling inside of Analysis for Office I heard a lot of open questions and issues.

This article should help to clarify the open questions and give a possible solution for issues.
Please comment the article for anything new, I will enhance the article according to that.

General

What does “message handling” mean?

Your backend (normally BW) and Analysis for Office are able to throw messages. There are different flavors of messages:

  • - Information
  • - Warning
  • - Error
  • - Critical

If a message occurred the message window slides in.

Example for an information thrown by BW:

slidein.jpg

You are now able to click on that box to open a separate window with detailed information:

popup.jpg

The text “RSPLS_CR-026” defines the message class (RSPLS_CR) and the message number (026).
If you open a customer incident at SAP that helps to support you faster.

Messages inside the message class “ID” are Analysis for Office messages and aren’t related to a specific backend:

error.jpg

Alternatively you can open the message window via “Help=>Show Messages”

context.jpg

Last but not least you can use the formula =SAPListOfMessages() to put the message inside the grid:

formula.jpg

The {-brackets indicating that the result might be bigger than one row. Keep the possible overlap in mind if you plan to put grids below that formula.

VBA

For sure the strong Analysis for Office API also offers possibilities to handle messages.

With

' defined in ThisWorkbook
Public Sub Workbook_SAP_Initialize()

     Call Application.Run("SAPExecuteCommand", "RegisterCallback", "BeforeMessageDisplay", "Callback_BeforeMessageDisplay")

End Sub

you can define a callback.

'defined in a module
Public Sub Callback_BeforeMessageDisplay()

Dim addIn As COMAddIn

    Dim automationObject As Object

    Set addIn = Application.COMAddIns("SBOP.AdvancedAnalysis.Addin.1")

    Set automationObject = addIn.Object

    Set mAO = automationObject.GetApplication()

    Dim lMessageService As IMessageService

    Set lMessageService = mAO.GetMessageService()

    Dim lMessages

    lMessages = lMessageService.GetMessages()

    'Get the first message

    Dim m As BiApi.IMessage

    Set m = lMessages(0)

    'Enhance it now with your coding

    ' -insert all messages into a collection for later analysis, probably your own             message window

    ' -ignore messages because of the severity or ID

    ' -add your own message

End Sub

The information which is available via the message object:

message.jpg

During your custom VBA coding you also have the chance to throw your own message:

         Dim lResult As Long
         lResult= Application.Run("SAPAddMessage", "This is a new error message!", "ERROR")

Please have a look into the official Analysis for Office documentation for further information.

Please have a look into Advanced COM API via VBA - Part 1 for detailed information how to reference the BiAPI library.

Suppress Messages

Some (BW) messages you can suppress for specific Queries. For that open the transaction RSRT and enter a valid Query name:

query.jpg

Open the messages dialog via “Edit->Messages” or “CTRL+SHIFT+F3”:

context2.jpg

In specific categories you can now decide if you want to suppress a message:

suppress.jpg

Q&A

“I saw a message sliding in, but after clicking on the window, the message dialog is empty”
or “New messages are deleting old messages”

That are common issues. The only solution is to implement the message handling as described above by yourself.

SAP BO Analysis for Microsoft Office and BI Launchpad

Hello all,

I tried searching over SCN but couldnt get an answer to my specific concern.

We plan to use SAP BO Analysis for MS Office on our Suite on HANA. What I would like to know is the installation and access to it.

How I understand this is that this will not be a part of the BI Launchpad like Webi and Crystal (I suppose) and needs to be a separate install on the client machine.

Also how can this then be a part of the BI Launchpad and what will be the limitation ?Can I access it on mobile devices ?

Thanks,

Zain

Analysis Office 2.0 is now in ramp-up; the current GA version is 1.4

Here is the PAM and below are some key points:

1fig.PNG

Figure 1: Source: SAP

Figure 1 shows the preceding release is still supported for a year after the product goes GA

2fig.PNG

Figure 2: Source: SAP

Installer should point out what is missing and the link in the installer will point to it

Please note: No support of Office of versions lower than 2010

3fig.PNG

Figure 3:

BW is supported as before

SAP HANA SP9 or higher

New Features

4fig.jpg

Figure 4

Table design is an important new feature; it is also known as “Dynamic grid”

When you insert a cross tab, if you insert a row or color style, it would have been lost with navigation/refresh

Now it keeps OLAP navigation and color/structure cross tab so it is extended to layout

This is first step; note that inserting text and formula in empty cells after refresh is not this first release.

This is more for formatting and inserting lines.

5fig.jpg

Figure 5: Source: SAP

Property View is the third column in the Display panel.  It is an “Expert mode”

It allows users who are familiar with Analysis Office to assign several properties in one step

It is not introducing new properties but introduce properties in a visualization

It is similar to Query Designer

More to come – and I hope we learn more at BI 2015 next year

Hello experts,

I'm quite new to BW/BI and i stumbled upon a problem in BI Analysis.

In a report/query there is a Free Characteristic 'Geplande startdatum' (cfr. Planned starting date) as well as a attributes 'Geplande startdatum' (cfr. Planned starting date). The source of both is 0PROJECT.

The problem is that the value's for both should be the same, yet there not.

I added a screenshot to elucidate the problem. What could be the problem here?

Thanks in advance!

I got a list of queries (technical names) and I should create 1 worksheet with 1 crosstab per query.

This should be done by VBA.

I've looked at the SAPSet* formulars and didn't find anything corresponding.

Any idea?

Hi Experts,

I know we can consume the HANA Views in Analysis for Office. But the question is in an landscape of a Business Suite on HANA and an HANA Live deployment if we can save the created Analysis for Office reports on the HANA environment as it works for BW and SAP BO.

We do not have a seperate SAP BW or a SAP BO in place.

Advanced COM API via VBA - Part 1

$
0
0

Please keep in mind that this feature is not officially documented and supported!

Additional to the VBA API described in the AO End User guide, Analysis for Office provides a tlb-file with enhanced COM functionalities. A type library (.tlb) is a binary file that stores information about a COM or DCOM object's properties and methods in a form that is accessible to other applications at runtime. Using a type library, an application can determine which interfaces an object supports, and invoke an object's interface methods. This document describes how to reference the tlb-file and how to access the functionalities. As an example this first part shows two simple functions you can use.

How to reference the API

You can reference the API by opening the “References” dialog in VBA. Select the file “BiApi.tlb” located in the installation folder of Analysis for Office.

addref.JPG

After referencing this library the object browser (press F2) shows you the available classes.

objectbrowser.JPG

General Coding

To access the functions you need the following general
coding:

Public mAO As Object

Sub Init()

On Error GoTo ErrorHandler

    Dim addIn As COMAddIn

    Dim automationObject As Object

    Set addIn = Application.COMAddIns("SBOP.AdvancedAnalysis.Addin.1")

    If addIn.Connect = False Then

       'start AO if not started yet

        addIn.Connect = True

    End If

    Set automationObject = addIn.Object

    Set mAO = automationObject.GetApplication()

    Exit Sub

ErrorHandler:

    MsgBox ("Problem occurred")

End Sub

Function AO() As IApplication

    If mAO Is Nothing Then

        Call Init

    End If

    Set AO = mAO

End Function

Now you are able to call  methods on the mAO object.

Samples

getConnections

This function returns all available connections for the
current workbook.

Sub ListOfConnections()
    Dim lEach As Variant
    Dim lList As Variant
    Dim aoCon As IConnection
    Dim lText As String

    Dim aoDoc As IDocument
    Set aoDoc = AO.GetActiveDocument()

    lList = aoDoc.GetConnections()

    For Each lEach In lList
      Set aoCon = lEach
      lText = lText + aoCon.SystemName +
               "; " + aoCon.SystemDescription + "; " + "connected:
               " + CStr(aoCon.IsConnected) + "; " + aoCon.RuntimeId + ";
               " + aoCon.BoeCuid + Chr(13)
    Next

    MsgBox (lText)
End Sub

Logout

To disconnect your workbook you can call the logout function on the active document

Sub Logout()

    Set aoDoc = AO.GetActiveDocument()

    Call aoDoc.Logout

End Sub

This is by the way a chance to implement the already in idea place requested feature “Disconnect”

In the next part(s) I will describe in detail the other available functions.

SAPSetFilterComponent - how to enter/paste multiple values

Hi all

When using SAPSetFilterComponent with the 'MULTIPLE' option, e.g. "DS_1";"0DIVISION";"ALL";"MULTIPLE", what is the supported way to enter multiples? So far I was able to enter or copy/paste semi-colon delimited values. Is it somehow also possible to paste a list from Excel, or is this only possible through the filter dialog?

Many thanks

Custom Sort

hi all

I'm looking for confirmation on whether it is possible within Analysis to do a custom sort of a characteristic by key or text, instead of the regular ascending or descending sort. E.g. my users would like to always see our divisions in a certain sequence.

I searched the user guide and this forum, and from this search it looks like this functionality doesn't exist, but it would be great if someone could confirm and perhaps also see if this is planned in a future release.

Thank you and best regards

Single Sign-On - Analysis Office vs BO vs BW

$

Hello Gurus,

I'm having a problem with the single sign on in Analysis for Microsoft Office Edition.

  1. I create a analysis document connected to BW
  2. I save the workbook in BO platform (launchpad)
  3. I close the analysis office and BO Launchpad.
  4. I open again the analysis, but this time I connected via BO
  5. When I open this document in BO, the system requireme to me to log on in BW
  6. Son we have first log on into BO to open the analysis document, and after log on into BW to be able to refresh the analysis document.

Is there any way to avoid this double log on? first in BO and after to BW. We want only the BO log on an then can open document created in analysis via BW but stored in BO.

Thank you for you help.
