Creating a dynamic operator in Office analysis

$
0
0

Hello All,

Is it possible to bring operators(=; =>;<= etc) in Analysis report (not referring to variants in Query Designer)? I often come across requirements where the user would want a operator on Date field or sales numbers etc. these are often temporary ad hoc reports and making changes to the Bex queries does not makes a lot of sense in the long run. It would be beneficial for the business to have a Analysis level solution like some kind of Function or formula that can narrow down their search results as per their requirements.

Please let me know if i was not elaborate enough to communicate the scenario over, I can explain more.

Thanks

Gaurav

How ASUG Members Influenced Analysis Office (and Sneak Preview)

$

Yesterday ASUG had a webcast where SAP's Alex Peter and ASUG volunteer Joyce Butler reported the results of the ASUG Analysis Influence Council.

Alex said the ASUG Analysis Influence Council was very helpful.  Please note that anything for the future is subject to change and the usual legal disclaimer applies.

The current council has 12 companies covering different companies and industries.

1fig.PNG

Figure 1: Source: ASUG Analysis Influence Council

Figure 1 shows the purpose of ASUG Influence Councils.

This webcast covered where ASUG members influenced SAP:and future roadmap.

BW Workspace

BW Workspaces, which is the technical name for mashing up local data with BW data.  You can add your own classification of items that are not already in the BW model.

BEx Workbooks

Another area where the ASUG Influence Council influenced SAP was conversion of BEx Workbooks.   At first SAP only focused on BEx 7.0 workbook conversion but the influence council clearly indicated that BEx 3.5 workbooks are needed.  Adding additional pressure was BEx 3.5 recently went out of maintenance; hence the need of offering a BEx 3.5 workbook conversion to Analysis Office

Variants

Variants was a gap with BEx Analyzer and the council asked for variants to be done as soon as possible.

2fig.PNG

Figure 2: Source: SAP

Figure 2 shows a new prompt dialog for Analysis OLAP, you can save the prompt values and create public and private variants.  You can also merge and unmerge variables.

3fig.PNG

Figure 3: Source: SAP

Figure 3 feature is only available for MSAS allowing for custom groupings, resulting from a discussion from this ASUG Influence Council.

This is not for BW yet.

4fig.PNG

Figure 4: Source: SAP

Create Analysis application from Analysis OLAP client you can take over the current datasources and directly post in Design Studio application.

Then you can change with Design Studio and change the interactivity features to filter items.

BEx Query Designer

If you are on a datasource and access Query Designer and redeploy to workbook was highly prioritized by the Influence Council

5fig.PNG

Figure 5: Source: SAP

Figure 5 shows that scheduling Analysis Office is available on the BI Platform.  SAP decided to do it on the BI Platform as it offers more than the BEx Broadcaster

There are a few things to catch up such as query prompt support; if a query has a prompt that is not supported. You can filter by exit or authorization variables.

Figure 5 covers the requirements.

6fig.PNG

Figure 6: Source: SAP

Figure 6 shows the left column today

The next release will be called “2.0” and will be a big effort

Beta will be Q2 and RTC will be end of year.

The big effort is rebuilding the platform of add-in because SAP plans to let SAP run add-ins side by side such as EPM.  Today the add-ins do not work side-by side

SAP wants to have them run side by side and clear vision for one single BI related add-in at SAP.

Analysis Office/EPM are planned to be brought together and SAP wants a smooth transition.

Configuration of workbooks is when you have several plug-ins available you would like to have a custom ribbons/context menu and combine in one single ribbon

Table formatting means you can only handle table as big block; can’t add empty lines or rows in a specific format.   The idea is to add some specific style elements in the table that continues to exist after refresh or navigation.  This also includes Excel-based formulas and expect it to “survive” any navigation. Analysis Office has to translate it into semantics to get this to work.

Complex scenarios include conditional formatting.  Hichert has some rules (planned values in light grey and actual in black and use color for positive trends) for cross tabs and charts and this could be used.

First release will start with simple inserting formatting of rows.

For BW, SAP is extending the unified BPC planning which is the evolution of BW-IP

On the BW side they are introducing the multi-select if you would like to change some specific settings, you can do that only one by one today.

In 2.0 (planned innovations) they will introduce storing workbooks in HANA.

Future directions include comments stored and work on PowerPoint .and scheduling.

Lumira integration:  the idea is to have visualizations from Lumira in Excel or PowerPoint and integrate vice-versa.  Native HANA means Analysis Office talks directly to HANA platform instead of today’s ODBC connection.

7fig.PNG

Figure 7: Source: SAP

In the future includes improved currency conversion support.

Planned innovations includes source related.

It has good interoperability with Design Studio and Analysis OLAP will stay as a good Analysis adhoc OLAP client.

Analysis Office will have sessions at BI 2014

Jump Start ASUG Annual Conference SAPPHIRE with a Pre-Conference Session - Back and Better than Ever includes hands-on Analysis Office with BW on HANA

AAOE Workbooks and SAP Standard Transport mechanism on Netweaver stack?

$

Dear all,

we are running BW 7.31 with the standard transport connection settings and not the BI transport mode.

Whenever a new BEx Analyzer worbook is created and saved on the netweaver stack, I get a popup to specifiy the package and I'm able  able to create the corresponding transport request.

I want to use the same mechanism for Analysis for Office workbooks, but each time I save a AAOE workbook, I do not get any popup for transport request creation at all and the AAOE workbook is stored as a local object in package $TMP.

Only chance will be to use the RSA1 -> Transport Connection Scenario to collect the AAOE workbooks in a transport request, but this is not really the way I want to go here.

I already checked all settings (ABAP: RS_RSAO_REGISTER_AND_TRANSP) and everything seems to OK...

Any ideas or is this simply not working?

Thanks and best regards,

Andreas

Hi ,

I am unable to connection BO4 environment from Analysis for Office, its throwing me error "session has been timed out"

Can one please let me know Where do you set the timeout for Analysis for MS Office connecting to BusinessObjects?

We've set the timeout in BO at 90 minutes which works great, but for Analysis for MS Office (in Excel) the session times out after 2 minutes....or sometime it feels like less

Workbook Scheduling

$

Hi Guys,

I have got a scenario where I would like to hear some of you
guys input.

I have set in BW broadcast report packages for email group
list using process chain. This report packages process chains are triggered manually by pressing a button on the
Netweaver Portal.

The process is quite simple. End of month finance team
finishes the reconciliation make sure data is all correct and balancing. They press
this buttons for the managers to receive their end of month reports.

Now with BO how can I make it easier for the end user to
send the report packages. The only way I know now is by scheduling every single
report to now. This is bad because we can't combine all reports in a single workbook as their are from different company codes.

Hello Everyone,

We are consuming Bex Queries and building AO Workbooks.

For consuming the bex queries in AO, do we need to enable the setting -  " allow external access to the query "?

Because i use to enable this setting for webi/AOLAP for web version.

So want to know, do i need to do enable the setting for Analysis for Office Version also.

SAPSetFilterComponent in combination with Callback AfterRedisplay

$

Dear all,

I use the formula SAPSetFilterComponent on my sheet.

In the background there is an excel add-in running. The add-in is programmed in VBA and registered for the callback event AfterRedisplay.

In the Callback procedure a generic header line is computed containing the current filter values.

Everything works fine, but from time to time the cell containing the formula SAPSetFilterComponent is not working any more. The funnel icon just won't show up!

After a refresh the funnel icon re-appears.

The error does not occurs on a regular base.

When I disable the handler procedure by entering a Exit Sub in the first line, the error does not occur (i.e. the funnel icon will always show up).

That's why I assume some connection between the formula and the callback. Usually when changing the header line, the event AfterRedisplay is triggered again. Analysis does recognize that it is already in "callback mode" but maybe there is still a bug.

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Any feedback is welcome.

How to configure a firewall to allow "Analysis for Office"(Excel 2007) to access a distant BW server ?

Advanced COM API via VBA - Part 1

$
0
0

Additional to the VBA API described in the AO End User guide, Analysis for Office provides a tlb-file with enhanced COM functionalities. A type library (.tlb) is a binary file that stores information about a COM or DCOM object's properties and methods in a form that is accessible to other applications at runtime. Using a type library, an application can determine which interfaces an object supports, and invoke an object's interface methods. This document describes how to reference the tlb-file and how to access the functionalities. As an example this first part shows two simple functions you can use.

How to reference the API

You can reference the API by opening the “References” dialog in VBA. Select the file “BiApi.tlb” located in the installation folder of Analysis for Office.

addref.JPG

After referencing this library the object browser (press F2) shows you the available classes.

objectbrowser.JPG

General Coding

To access the functions you need the following general
coding:

Public mAO As Object
Sub Init()
On Error GoTo ErrorHandler    Dim addIn As COMAddIn    Dim automationObject As Object    Set addIn = Application.COMAddIns("SBOP.AdvancedAnalysis.Addin.1")    If addIn.Connect = False Then       'start AO if not started yet        addIn.Connect = True    End If    Set automationObject = addIn.Object    Set mAO = automationObject.GetApplication()      Exit Sub
ErrorHandler:    MsgBox ("Problem occurred")
End Sub
Function AO() As IApplication    If mAO Is Nothing Then        Call Init    End If    Set AO = mAO
End Function

Now you are able to call  methods on the mAO object.

Samples

getConnections

This function returns all available connections for the
current workbook.

Sub ListOfConnections()    Dim lEach As Variant    Dim lList As Variant    Dim aoCon As IConnection    Dim lText As String    Dim aoDoc As IDocument    Set aoDoc = AO.GetActiveDocument()    lList = aoDoc.GetConnections()    For Each lEach In lList      Set aoCon = lEach      lText = lText + aoCon.SystemName +               "; " + aoCon.SystemDescription + "; " + "connected:               " + CStr(aoCon.IsConnected) + "; " + aoCon.RuntimeId + ";               " + aoCon.BoeCuid + Chr(13)    Next    MsgBox (lText)
End Sub

Logout

To disconnect your workbook you can call the logout function on the active document

Sub Logout()    Set aoDoc = AO.GetActiveDocument()    Call aoDoc.Logout
End Sub

This is by the way to implement the already in idea place requested feature “Disconnect”

In the next part(s) I will describe in detail the other available functions.

Saving Office Analysis workbooks .

$

Hi All,

I want some clearity on saving Office Analysis workbooks. We've been advised to save all Analysis reports as Microsoft Excel macro Enabled Worksheet XLSM but saving it as xlsm file does not bring up the BI platform log in box when reopening the report. It takes me straight to the BW log in box instead. Saving the report as Excel Workbook XLSX does bring the BI Platform log in box (Which is what i want to see when a report is pulled ).

At this point I'm in a dilemma when to save the workbook as XLSX and what factors to consider before saving a Analysis workbook ?

Can anyone please enlighten me on this.

Thanks
