Updated - Mobilizing your Analysis Office Workbook to Design Studio

When I wrote this Going from BusinessObjects Analysis Office to BusinessObjects Design Studio - Mobilize your Spreadsheet? - I struggled with the functionality and now I know why.  I was always highlighted the entire crosstab in Analysis Office and then trying to insert it as a data source to SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio

Many times it didn't work for me.  So I checked out the Design Studio course on Learning Hub and learned what I was doing wrong - I didn't need to select the entire cross tab.  I simply needed to right click to get the context menu in the cross tab, select Smart Copy and then go to Design Studio.

See this short video below on how to use this:

I noticed it doesn't carry over the conditional formatting like the Create Web Application Ribbon does.  But as the video shows it does remember the filtered navigation state.

How to Trigger BW Process Chains from Analysis for Office

$

0

There are scenarios where there's a need to trigger a process chain from an Analysis for Office. For example, you might need to allow a user to click a button in your Analysis for Office workbook which triggers a disaggregation of gross margin in the background based on percentages that a user have just entered. To enable this functionality, simply follow these steps:

1. Create a InfoObject of type Characteristic. Name the characteristic ZPCCHAIN and configure it to be of type CHAR with length 25 (the maximum length of process chain technical IDs).

ZPCCHAIN.png

2. Create a real-time InfoCube named YCX_R01 that contains characteristic ZPCCHAIN and a key figure of your choice. The key figure is not really used to store any real values. We simply need it to be there in order to be able to build a MultiProvider on top of our cube (a MultiProvider needs at least one key figure). For this how-to blog, I've chosen to use 0AMOUNT. I've set the description of 0AMOUNT in my InfoCube to be "Dummy/unused Key Figure" to imply that it does not serve any function but to enable as to build a MultiProvider on top of it.

InfoCube YCX_R01.png

3. Create a MultiProvider named YCX_M01 on top of your InfoCube and map InfoObject ZPCCHAIN and your chosem key figure. Note that the MultiProvider is not mandatory (i.e. you can build an aggregation level directly on top of InfoCube YCX_C01) but I recommend creating one to follow best practice.

YCX_M01.png

4. Create an aggregation level named YCX_A01 on top of MultiProvider YCX_M01 (or directly on top of InfoCube YCX_C01 if you've chosen to skip step #3). Ensure that you use InfoObject ZPCCHAIN and your chosen key figure to be part of your aggregation level.

YCX_A01.png

5. Enable function model RSPC_API_CHAIN_START to be called in a FOX formula by creating an entry in table RSPLF_DIR.

Table RSPLF_FDIR.png

6.  Create a BeX query variable named ZCUP_PCCHAIN_001 with the following configuration:

Variable 1.png

Variable 2.png

7.  Create a BeX query filter named YCX_A01_FI001 with the following configuration:

YCX_A01_FI001.png

8. Create a planning function named YCX_A01_PF01 of type FOX formula with following characteristics configuration and FOX code:

YCX_A01_PF001 1.png

YCX_A01_PF001 Formula.png

9.  Create a planning sequence named YCX_A01_PS001 that makes use of planning function YCX_A01_PF001 and filter YCX_A01_FI001.

YCX_A01_PS001.png

10. In InfoCube YCX_C01, add an entry for the process chain that needs to be triggered. You do can this using transaction RSINPUT or through a data load. Ensure that your dummy key figure is non-zero.

RSINPUT YCX_R01.png

11. In an Analysis for Excel workbook that already contains an input ready query, insert planning sequence YCX_A01_PS001 in the components tab. In this example, we will leave the alias to PS_1.

12. In your workbook, specify parameters for planning sequence YCX_A01_PS001. You need to either hardcode a value for variable ZCUP_PCCHAIN_001 or specify the value using a cell reference. Ensure that the value your specify as the parameter is contained in InfoCube YCX_R01 (see step 10)

13. Execute the planning sequence when a button is pressed by linking the button into a VBA subroutine with the following code. Note that if you change the name of your planning sequence to other than PS_1, you should use that name instead.

Dim lResult As Long

lResult= Application.Run("SAPExecutePlanningSequence","PS_1")

That't all to it! When you click the button, your planning sequence should now execute and the relevant process chain should be triggered.

CustomUI/Ribbon functionality appears in Quick access toolbar?!

$

Hello everyone,

I've got a question about the custom UI Ribbons in BOA for MS Office...

I read through this posting: http://scn.sap.com/message/13412892

and this documentation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa338202(v=office.12).aspx

...but still I don't find the right solution :-(

I edited the customUI.xml file so that it looks like this right now:

<mso:customUI xmlns:mso="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2006/01/customui" xmlns:AO="SBOP.AdvancedAnalysis.Addin.1">

<mso:ribbon>

<mso:qat>

<mso:documentControls>

<mso:control idQ="AO:com.sap.ip.bi.pioneer.core.command.refresh" visible="true"/>

<mso:control idQ="AO:com.sap.ip.bi.newpioneer.excel.display" visible="true"/>

<mso:control idQ="AO:com.sap.ip.bi.pioneer.core.command.togglePauseAutoRefresh" visible="true"/>

<mso:control idQ="AO:com.sap.ip.bi.newpioneer.excel.promptsmenu" visible="true"/>

<mso:control idQ="AO:com.sap.ip.bi.newpioneer.excel.settings.menu" visible="true"/>

<mso:control idQ="AO:com.sap.ip.bi.newpioneer.excel.settings.helpmenu" visible="true"/>

</mso:documentControls>

</mso:qat>

</mso:ribbon>

</mso:customUI>

I followed these steps:

1) Create New workbook

2) Options Quick Access Toolbar

3) Chose to modify "This Workbook" NOT "For all documents"

4) Add an analysis button

5) Save

... and basically everything was generated automatically, I just exchanged "doc:" to "AO:", and edited the first line.

The outcome looks like this... I find my buttons in the Quick Access Toolbar (blue), but not in the Analysis ribbon list (red)

Ribbons_Quick_Access.png

In the posting mentioned above it looks like it works as desired... but it just doesn't do in my version.

Does anybody see the error or could provide a correct version of the .xml file?

Thank you very much,

Martin

BO Analysis Office: Support for Wildcards in Variables (Selection Option)

$

Hello together,

Actually (Version 1.4.3.2665) Analysis Office does not support wildcards in variables (input of i.e. * for a selection option variable). Does anybody know, if there are plans to support wildcards? It is the same for Analysis OLAP. We are thinking of replacing BEx Analyzer with Analysis, but for this case the support of wildcards will be essential.

Any hints are welcome.

Thanks and best regards,

Display Dimensions as Number instead of Text

$

Hi All,

When using Analysis for Office 1.4 I notice that my dimensions are always formatted in text en never available in number.

Year is shown as

     '2014

     '2013

     '2012

instead of

     2014

     2013

     2012

The Key of my Point-of-Sale is shown as

     '1

     '10

     '11

     '2

     '3

instead of

     1

     2

     3

     ...

     10

     11

Is there a way to prevent this and shown them by default in numerical format?

Kind Regards,

Filter by member - Text

$

Hi all,

We try to filter values of material looking for their text. The problem we are facing is the value help seems to be case-sensitive so, the text we have to look for have to be in uppercase or lowercase depedning on the text, this makes difficult to look for the long list of values and the text to be found has to be exactly as it is.

For example, the values are:

  1. Diapers 10x2
  2. Diap. active 32x5
  3. Natural diapers 18x5
  4. DIAPERS ACTIVE SEC 15x3
  5. Other materials

If we write the word diap, the only match is the number 3.

If we write the word Diap, it finds 1 and 2.

We want to look for all material which text has the word "diap". So, in the example the entries found should be 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Do you know if there is any parameter to change in order to avoid the "case sensitive" setting?

Thanks, Federico

Hi all,

I am getting the below error when running an Analysis for Excel report.

The odd thing is that the report gives the error ONLY for some specific selections, otherwise is working properly.

Moreover same version of the report in WEBI is working fine.

Someone has any clue about the issue?

Thanks

Hi experts.

I need to convert lot of workbooks from Bex 3.5 to Analysis for Excel.

Some of them are huge ( more than 50 tabs with lot of formulas inside).

Do you know how can i convert them without recreating them from scratch?

I have tried to open an existing Bex Workbook but i cannot insert a new query, as all analysis tabs are disabled and the xls sheet looks static.

Waiting forward for an answer from you.

Thanks

BusinessObjects Analysis 1.4 - Control does not support transparent background colors

Hello,

I have BusinessObjects 1.4 SP06 with Excel 2013 and I am trying to include a planning sequence (or function) in the workbook.

After including the planning sequence in the components tab, the properties are not displayed and if I try to select it again the system issues the following error message:

Control does not support transparent background colors

The image shows the error message and the components tab with no properties for the planning sequence.

BOA Error.jpg

The detailed error, from the log file, is the following:

com.sap.ip.bi.pioneer.core.main.CrSession.ProcessUnhandledException() ()

- Critical: General .NET Exception:

I have re-installed BOA and installed the latest SP version, but without luck. Has anyone encountered this error? Any ideas on how to solve it?

Syntax for entering values "contains pattern"

$

Hi,

Reading the SAP BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office User's Guide on page 82/83 I can see that user can filter values user "contains pattern" with an extra-information "*You can not use these syntax rules for filtering."

aa.png

We can filter datas with pattern into SAP BW, so users want to have same functionnality with AfOffice (and they don't understand why we can do this before and not in the nex BI tool whereas it's included in User Guide).

Does it exist a workaround or any information about a release of this capability ?

Thanks for your support,

Analysis for Excel

Hello experts,

I installed in office 2013 analysis for excel, and then run the query but in the area of design, I have chosen to display, but  not shown elements of analysis to create the dynamic table.

You know,  what's the problem?

Thank you very much.

Specific prompt by query/tab

$

Hi,

I have a workbook with 2 ready for input queries on 2 tabs. Both queries run on the same aggregation level.

First Tab has one query with  2 mandatory variables            country (Multi) year(single)

Second Tab has one query with 2 mandatory variables       country (Single) year(single) & store(All)

so the second query is actually a detailed view (store) of the first but then sliced to 1 country .

When opening the workbook I actually do not know for what county I want to detail out by store.

So including it in the prompt as a mandatory variable does not help.

Best case there would be a prompt  that comes up when moving to the second query/tab only asking for a single selekt for country.

I have no idea how to do this, do you?

Best Regards,

Georg
